Kandov attended the Bulgarian State Academy of Music, and studied Composition under Dimitar Tapkoff and Piano under Liuba Obretenova.^[1]

He worked as a music editor at the Bulgarian National Radio and at Musica Publishing House, and lectured in Polyphony at the Bulgarian State Academy of Music.^[2]

From 1982 to 1990, he was Chairman of the Young Composers’ Section at the Union of Bulgarian Composers.^[3]

Throughout his career as a composer, his works have been commissioned for the recording company Balkanton and for Bulgarian National Radio.^[4]

Since 1990, he has lived in Spain, where he continues to compose and teach.
