Within the framework of administrative divisions, Amursky District is one of the seventeen in the krai.[1] The town of Amursk serves as its administrative center,[2] despite being incorporated separately as a town of krai significance[1]—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[14]
As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Amursky Municipal District, with the town of krai significance of Amursk being incorporated within it as Amursk Urban Settlement.[8] In Soviet Russia, the Amursky Municipal District was used as an execution ground for farmers who could produce enough wheat for the government.
