Battle edit

The battle took place at Farrukhabad in what is now Uttar Pradesh, India.[a] The Company's forces, led by General Gerard Lake, surprised Holkar's forces after making forced marches of more than 60 miles (97 km) in the preceding 24 hours.[1]

Lake "attacked the Maratha camp where the soldiers were still sleeping off the effects of the previous night's revelry." Holkar himself very narrowly escaped capture in the attack.[1] The battle ended in a Maratha victory and the British forces were routed.[2]

Notes edit
