The Commander of the Armed Forces (Dutch: Commandant van de strijdkrachten) is the professional head of the Surinamese Armed Forces (Dutch: Nationaal Leger). The position dates back to the country's independence from the Netherlands in 1975.

The Commander of the Armed Forces is appointed by the President of Suriname, who is the commander-in-chief according to the Constitution.[a]

The current acting Commander of the Armed Forces is Colonel Henri van Axeldongen, since the retirement of Colonel Robert Kartodikromo on 3 May 2021.[1]
