This is a representation of a government, military, regimental, family, or other symbol such as a flag, seal, emblem, coat of arms or crest. This symbol may be copyrighted by its holder. As well, it is known that the representation of this symbol is either copyrighted by the holder of the symbol or is not available under a free licence. There may also be other restrictions on reproduction, including but not limited to article 6ter of the Paris Convention. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such symbols to illustrate the symbol in question on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as non-free use under the Copyright law of the United States. The seal was designed by Judith A. Derricott in 1967. She was a secretary for the county planning commission. Raymond P. Shafer was governor at the time and was from Crawford county. He realized his home county had no seal while planning to decorate the Governor's mansion and requested that one be made by the planning commission. It was approved by the planning commission and has been in use since then. The original design is on display at the Crawford county courthouse in Meadville, PA.
