Lev Viktorovich Ivanov |
Source (WP:NFCC#4) | Creation date: 1964 (first publication no later than 2010) Immediate source: RIA Novosti |
Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) | Vladimir Komarov |
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | for visual identification of the person in question, at the top of his/her biographical article |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
No photo-portraits have copyright expired yet. Copyright law about postage stamps and postage covers is strange (in such that Russian postage stamps are considered "public domain", but do not permit certain modifications defined by Wikimedia's 4 Freedoms, etc). And the photos of cosmonauts released to Wikipedia by RIA Novosti in the early 2010s have Komarov in group photos, but cropping out his face yields an image of very poor quality that is insufficient for the needs of representing a famous cosmonaut. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | Resolution reduced and cropped slightly, just for educational purposes. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
Resolution is reduced, and RIA Novosti is owned by the government of Russia. It is in the interests of the copyright owner that Vladimir Komarov and other Soviet cosmonauts be represented by quality photos instead of facing de facto damnatio memoriae through lack of photo representation. The photographer, Lev Ivanov, is probably deceased given the year of the photo. |
Other information | The subject of the photograph has been deceased since 1967. |
