Life and career edit
Raisen, a native of Massapequa, New York, resides in Los Angeles where he owns a recording studio.[1][2]
In 2019, Raisen launched his own record label, KRO Records, with Lawrence and Yves Rothman.[3] KRO's first release included two tracks from River Phoenix's band Aleka's Attic, along with a single from Rain Phoenix featuring Michael Stipe.[4] This was followed by the single "Poison" by Marissa Nadler featuring John Cale.[5] Other 2019 releases included Kills Birds' self-titled debut LP; Buzzy Lee's EP, "Close Encounters of Our Own Kind"; and a single titled "Mother" by Courtney Love.[6][7][8] In 2020, KRO Records released the soundtrack for Stephen Spielberg's The Turning under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment.[9]
After the Lizzo single "Truth Hurts" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019, Raisen, alongside his brother Jeremiah, accused Lizzo of plagiarizing a line from his song "Healthy" and asked to receive songwriting credits.[10] Instead, Lizzo filed a lawsuit in order to receive a declaratory judgment blocking the Raisens from receiving any songwriting credits.[2] The Raisens responded in February 2020 by filing a counterclaim, asking to receive royalties and songwriting credits for the song.[11]
