Professional career edit

First known widely for the official licensed bestseller Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion from Pocket Books through three editions beginning 1992, Nemecek later wrote the Star Trek: Stellar Cartography map and book set now used by franchise producers. He served as managing editor of licensed Communicator magazine from 1998 to 2005.

Since 2018 he has hosted The Trek Files weekly for Roddenberry Podcasts, shares a story co-credit for the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Prophecy," and has spoken at Star Trek and other pop culture conventions worldwide since his first book appeared.

Under his Trekland moniker geared to behind-the-scenes insights in the franchise, Nemecek offers the Portal 47 monthly backstage fan service, leads Trekland Tours day trips of location filming sites, and livestreams and hosts weekly on YouTube. His interview archives include over 600 hours of audio and video with Star Trek backstage creatives since 1992.

He has portrayed Dr. McCoy in the Star Trek Continues web series episodes "Pilgrim of Eternity" and "Lolani" and served as the series' Creative Consultant.[1][2][3] Nemecek has acted in and produced a number of different Star Trek related media products, both in a professional capacity and as an enthusiast.

In 2022, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Speculative Fiction Hall of Fame by the Future Society of Central Oklahoma.[4]

Personal life edit

Nemecek holds a theatre and communications BA from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and an MA in theatre/directing from the University of Kansas[citation needed]. He is married to Janet Nemecek, onetime assistant script coordinator for Star Trek: Voyager [citation needed]. Nemecek was a founding committee member for the non-profit Soonercon charity sci-fi fan convention in 1986, and founded the Trek-focused non-profit ThunderCon media fan convention in 1991[citation needed].

Reflecting a lifelong interest in a fellow Oklahoma native, he serves on the board of directors of the Will Rogers Ranch Foundation that supports the Will Rogers State Historic Park in greater Los Angeles, California and was elected president in 2023. He has volunteered as a docent and interpretive tour host there since 2002.
