He successfully contested the election to be a Member of Legislative Assembly from Nathnagar constituency in Bihar.^{[citation needed]} Later he became a cabinet minister and held two offices: Ministry of Minority Welfare and Ministry of Public Welfare Department.^{[citation needed]}
