Oak Leaf is located in northern Ellis County at 32°31′13″N 96°51′20″W / 32.52028°N 96.85556°W / 32.52028; -96.85556 (32.520253, –96.855654).[6] It is bordered to the northwest by Ovilla, to the north by Glenn Heights, and to the east by Red Oak. Waxahachie, the county seat, is 11 miles (18 km) to the south, and downtown Dallas is 20 miles (32 km) to the north.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.1 km2), of which 1.572 acres (6,362 m2), or 0.10%, is water.[5]

Oak Leaf is nearly all residential. Besides homes, there is one church, one city office and one auto repair shop.
