History edit

The town is named in honor of the first Senator from Zamboanga, Roseller T. Lim.

The municipality, then in Zamboanga del Sur, was created as Roseller Lim through Batas Pambansa Blg. 183 which was approved on March 16, 1982; fourteen barangays in Ipil had been separated with Surabay designated the seat of government.[5] A plebiscite for ratification, along with ten more newly-created local entities including Vincenzo Sagun (which remains in Zamboanga del Sur), was held on May 17, coinciding with the barangay elections.[6]
