Sharkansky District (Russian: Шарка́нский райо́н; Udmurt: Шаркан ёрос, Šarkan joros) is an administrative[1] and municipal[7] district (raion), one of the twenty-five in the Udmurt Republic, Russia. It is located in the east of the republic. The area of the district is 1,404.5 square kilometers (542.3 sq mi).[3] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Sharkan.[2] Population: 19,100 (2010 Russian census);[4] 21,384 (2002 Census);[9] 21,487 (1989 Soviet census).[10] The population of Sharkan accounts for 34.6% of the district's total population.[4]
