It was created in May 2013 from parts of Jafarabad District.[2]

Sohbatpur District consists of the following Tehsils:

  • Manjhipur;
  • Hairdin;
  • Faridabad; and
  • Sohbatpur.

The district borders the Naseerabad, Jafarabad and Dera Bugti districts of Balochistan, and Jacobabad and Kashmore districts of Sindh.

The district has eight police stations.

At the time of the 2017 census the district had 30,114 households and a population of 200,426. Sohbatpur had a sex ratio of 946 females per 1,000 males and a literacy rate of 33.15% (47.65% for males and 18.07% for females). 12,867 (6.42%) inhabitants lived in urban areas. 78,795 (39.31%) were under 10 years of age. Islam was the predominant religion with 99.26%, while Hindus constituted 0.68% of the population.[1]
