The place was named after the play Struck Oil.[4]
Struck Oil Provisional School opened in 1905. On 1 March 1911, it became Struck Oil State School. It closed circa 1944.[5] It was on the south side of Struck Oil Road (approx 23°36′44″S 150°27′04″E / 23.61226°S 150.45112°E).[6][7]
In the 2016 census, Struck Oil had a population of 179 people.[8]
In the 2021 census, Struck Oil had a population of 151 people.[3]
There are no schools in Struck Oil. The nearest primary schools are in neighbouring Bouldercombe and Mount Morgan. The nearest secondary school is in Mount Morgan.[7]
