Production edit

Production of the boat was commenced in 1984 by Tanzer Industries of Dorion, Quebec. The company entered bankruptcy in May 1986 and production ended.[1][3][4]

Design edit

The Tanzer 31 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fibreglass, with wood trim. It has a masthead sloop rig, a spade-style rudder and a fixed fin keel.[1][2][3]

The boat was built with a standard keel that gives a draft of 5.25 ft (1.60 m). A shoal-draft keel with a draft of 4.00 ft (1.22 m), was a factory option.[1][2][3]

It is powered by an inboard-mounted Japanese-built Yanmar Diesel engine of 15 hp (11 kW), with a 44 US gal (167 L) fuel tank. A 44 US gal (167 L) fresh water tank was also fitted.[1][3]

The boat has a PHRF racing average handicap of 168 with a high of 182 and a low of 159. It has a hull speed of 6.7 kn (12.41 km/h).[2][3]
