The company was set up in early 1962 as a Libyan-owned charter airline that initially employed British crews.[2] The airline took delivery of its first aircraft, a British-registered Douglas DC-3 bought from Autair, in March 1962.[3]
United Libyan Airlines was absorbed into Kingdom of Libya Airlines on 2 October 1965.[4]

United Libyan Airlines, a new wholly Libyan-owned charter company, have recently taken delivery at Luton of their first DC-3. At the moment the aircraft, bought from Autair, is British-registered and flown by British crews; seen here with the DC-3 is Capt C. J. Bicknell, general manager.
