Xu Song (Chinese: 许嵩), also known as "Vae" in English, is a Chinese musician. He was born in Hefei, Anhui Province, China, on 14 May 1986.[1]
The key word in Song's music journey is "Personalize". In the early days before his style was established, he uploaded covers of Jay Chou's songs. Because of the similarity in tone and singing style, he was once called "Little Jay Chou".[2] Xu Song then taught himself music composition, and in 2006 he began to publish original works on the Internet under the pseudonym Vae.[3]
After graduating from college, Song spent about half a year making his first album. On January 10, 2009, his album named Personalize (自定义) came out.[4] He personally did all the composing, writing, recording, etc. Even the paper used in the package was chosen by him. The album has nine songs, including "Why Not" (有何不可), "Bad Kid" (坏孩子), "Shrewdness" (城府), "Excessive Explanations" (多余的解释) plus others.[5][6]
So, Song passed on all companies and began to prepare his second CD Sought and Got (寻雾启示), which came out on January 6, 2010 and became another big success.[7] There are nine songs on this CD, including "Luzhou Moon" (庐州月), "The White Horse Is Not A Horse" (白马非马).[8]
"I Don't Care" (我无所谓), "Single Journey" (单人旅途). One day after the CD being uploaded on the Internet, it became the most popular one in QQ music taking the place of Jay Chou, who had been on top for more than seven years.
In March 2011 Vae finally got into an international musical company, Ocean Butterflies.[9]
The CD "Socra Without "Tes" (苏格拉没有底) was published on 1 Apr 2011.[10]
