Google: There are three categories of sites that need a sitemap

The search engine admits the painless absence of a Sitemap for some and strongly recommends its use for other web projects.

The Google Webmasters YouTube channel has a new video tutorial on the sitemap:

The video focuses on how to use the sitemap reporting in the Google Webmaster Panel. We were interested in other accents.

According to the speaker Daniel Weisberg , not all sites need this kind of files:

“A sitemap is not obligatory for use if the resource is relatively small and at the same time has the correct linking of internal pages. In this case, Googlebot is quite capable of independently detecting all the pages of such a web project. "

On the other hand, there are sites to which the Sitemap is shown. These include:

  • large portals;
  • resources with poor-quality linking (isolated pages);
  • newly created sites with constantly updated content like SEO London Digital, such as newsletters.

A search clerk emphasized that using a Sitemap would help Googlebot not only locate individual pages, but also prioritize their crawling.

In conclusion, a Google representative reminded that the use of a sitemap does not guarantee anything by itself. It is not a fact that search bots will necessarily crawl all the pages that are included in it. At the same time, in most cases, the presence of the Map benefits the resource.
