Close Out the Summer with These 5 Whiskies

It’s almost the end of summer, and it’s time to end it with a bang. These whiskies are the perfect way to toast the end of the season with your personalized whiskey glasses, and there’s quite a variety among them. From a whiskey reminiscent of cakes to a throwback to whiskies of the 1800s, there is plenty to choose from to see you through the end of the warm months.

Glenmorangie A Tale of Cake

First, to truly toast away summer, try a single malt first aged in ex-bourbon casks before it finishes maturing in ex-Tokaji wine casks. The Hungarian dessert wine is made using noble rot grapes, which impart a sweet, honeyed flavor. It has notes of toasted malt, Granny Smith apples, cinnamon, and honey. A tartness and spiciness help the dram from being overly sweet. Serve it with a slice of cake after dinner in engraved glasses with a custom logo and bid farewell to summer.

Ardberg Uigadail

Named Whisky of the Year by Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible in 2009, the Ardberg Uigadail is consistently named as a favorite by the Argberg Committee. Ardberg describes the aroma as rich and weighty, offering heady and smoky aromatics. It’s smoky yet sweet, like spiced Christmas cakes, pine needles, toffee, and banana walnut bread with mocha. While initially sweet, the mouth-coating whisky also features spicy, and deep smoky flavors of winter spices. It ends with deep tones of raisins and mocha. Pour some in your glasses etched with your monogrammed initials and see what the fuss is about.

The Glenlivet 12 Year Illicit Still

George Smith founded The Glenlivet in the 1800s using an illegal still. This expression is non-chill filtered and bottled at 48% ABV as a throwback to how Smith would have made whisky then. On the nose, it’s fresh fruit and florals, while on the palate, it features notes of richer fruits such as syrupy poached pears and cooked pineapple. A long, warm finish helps temper the whisky with dry oak spices.

Lot No. 40 Whisky

While Crown Royal may be the most famous Canadian whisky, Lot No. 40 is highly regarded, if not a household name. This 100% rye whisky offers hints of spice with cocoa and caramel notes. Pour Lot 40 as a smooth sipper.

Stagg Jr. Bourbon

Looking for something strong? Barrel-proof whiskey is for you. These are often 60% ABV or more, as it hasn’t been cut, and is as close to drinking straight out of the barrel you can get at home. This amplifies the flavors, as well. In the case of Stagg Jr., this means brown sugar, cacao, and baking spices. Made by Buffalo Trace, it’s easier to find than its big brother, George T. Stagg bourbon, but just as good.

About Crystal Imagery

Eric Schuchart started making custom engraved glasses as a fun hobby in 2000, not knowing it would later become much more. Crafting deeply engraved gifts for friends and family was merely the fledgling step in the creation of Crystal Imagery. Schuchart’s work was well-received, which encouraged him in 2013 to incorporate Crystal Imagery. He was joined by Sherri Blum, an interior designer for celebrities, as a business partner and co-founder. The deep-carving technique Crystal Imagery uses on glass makes it stand out in the industry. It creates a 3D relief in the glass, adding a depth you can feel and creating a shadow. The results can’t be matched by typical rotary and laser surface etchings. Products Crystal Imagery offers include personalized whiskey glasses, flasks, Nick and Nora glasses, beer mugs, champagne flutes, and more glassware. Indulge yourself and add a touch of personalized elegance to your home bar with Crystal Imagery.
