How Does Water Cooling Work?

By now, water cooling is a well-known topic in the computer world and has been very well-received by the industry. However, you can know all about the physicality of the equipment, but hardly anyone knows how it functions. This article will further elaborate on its process of work in each part of the component.

Water cooling systems basically use the principle of thermodynamics. It is a principle in physics that helps maintain bodily temperatures through transferring heat from one body to a cooler body. Let's further break down the components of a CPU water cooling loop.

Water blocks:Heatkiller Water Blocks are essentially three kinds of water blocks used in a cooling system. While all three are used to transfer heat from one source to another, it is located at different parts. The CPU water blocks are used to take heat from the processor into the coolant and run it through the block.

The GPU Water Block similarly takes heat from the graphic card and runs it through the water block. However, a GPU water block can further be classified into two types- full cover block or universal GPU block. While full-cover GPU Water Cooling is only made for certain high-performing graphics cards, universal blocks can fit any.

Then there are the motherboard water blocks. These, as the name suggests, take the heat from the motherboard and run it along with the coolant. The two main types are chipset blocks and monoblack.

Reservoir: The coolant running through these water blocks is stored in a reservoir and circulated in the system. It helps to replace the heated coolant with a new normal temperature coolant. It can be attached to a pump or be a standalone component.

Tubing: Tubes are what run through the whole system, making pathways for the coolant to travel in. they come in different materials, sizes, and colors. However, soft and hard tubing are the two most common types known. When purchasing tubing, you should make sure that the inner diameter fits the outer diameter of the fitting.

Fitting: Fitting helps connect each component in the water-cooling system to each other. It can be tubing to tubing or water blocks to tubing or reservoirs or radiators. This, too, comes in different sizes, shapes, and colors, matching with the tubing. You can also try newer versions like Led Water Cooling Fittings to give the cabinet a more futuristic look. However, if you are going to buy LED fittings, ensure that the cabinet has a fiberglass side panel for the lighting to actually show.

These are some of the important components of a water cooling system that can help you make a better decision while buying it.
