Pole saw features that make everyone love it

Pole saws are quite convenient when it comes to maintaining your yard. With the right pole saw in hand, you can easily trim and prune your yard without having to call a professional. In a few minutes, you can make light work of unwanted branches and vines.

What is a pole saw?

A pole saw, as the name states, is simply a saw on one end of a pole. It’s used to cut things that are out of reach of a standard saw such as tree branches. Tree pole saws can be manually operated where you’d need to move the blade back and forth to cut the branches or powered by a motor. These latter ones often have a small chainsaw-like blade that you can adjust to different angles. Because of its convenience and efficiency, the pole saw has become quite popular. Here are some of the features that make everyone love it.

It’s either manual or powered

Pole saws can be electric, gas-powered, or manual. A manual pole saw is the more traditional version of the two. It’s has a curved hacksaw and it needs you to provide the power. The blade has longer teeth perfect for cutting wooden branches. These pole saws are lightweight and offer more control as you cut. Powered pole saws can be gas-powered or electric. They are more powerful than the manual ones, with gas-powered ones providing the most power. Electric pole saws can be corded or cordless for increased portability.

Blade size

Pole saws come with different sized blades. This variety allows for manual poles to have longer blades that let you reach larger branches more easily while providing more saw power efficiency as you work. With powered models, the exposed length is your blade’s maximum cutting capacity. This means if you have a saw bar that’s 8 inches with 7 inches exposed, you can only saw 7-inch branches and under. However, there’s a wide variety of saw bar sizes, meaning you can get one that allows you to saw larger branches more easily.

Length

This is quite possibly the most appealing feature of a pole saw. There are extendable pole saws that use telescopic poles, allowing you to adjust the length as needed easily. Most pole saws range from 7 to 15 feet long. When looking at pole saws, you’ll often see maximum reach listed. This feature takes into account the pole’s maximum length and the user’s height. Most manufacturers add about 5 feet to the pole length to get the maximum reach. This means that if your pole saw is 7 feet, its maximum reach is 12 feet.

Extra features

Depending on the manufacturer, pole saws also come with additional features such as an automatic chain lube mechanism to ensure your blade remains in good condition, safety switches, ergonomic grips to ensure your wrists are comfortable as you work, adjustable saw bar angles to get to those hard to reach branches, and removable poles for easy disassembly for storage. These additional features can improve your accuracy, safety, or increase the ease of pruning and trimming your yard.

With these features, it’s easy to see why pole saws are so loved. These features can also serve as a buying guide, so you know what to look for when getting a pole saw.
