Amphetamines Are Toxic For Cats

Amphetamines are prescription stimulant medications used for the treatment of obesity, narcolepsy, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).  Some of the illegal variants are sold are ecstasy, methamphetamine, and crystal meth.  As they have overpowering effects on humans, they are very poisonous to cats.

Most of the amphetamine cases with cats are due to ingestion from open pillboxes or those dropped accidentally on the ground.  In rare cases, they are given to cats.  If your cat has swallowed an amphetamine but is still on its feet and without any seizures, you may trigger vomiting in your cat by giving it ipecac or hydrogen peroxide. To absorb the toxin in the stomach, usually activated charcoal is used.  In some cases, it may be necessary to pump the stomach via gastric lavage.

If you think your pet has ingested amphetamines, take her to the nearest pet clinic Roanoke, VA immediately.
