Care of Spring and Gas Airsoft Guns - A Short Course

OK, I am back with another short course on care of airsoft guns, this time we will help the beginners and week enders with some tips and suggestions that will improve the performance and add longevity to their weapons.

Spring Guns

This was the first type of airsoft gun and still the most reliable. With proper care it will last for years.

Do's

Oil all parts of gun slightly after each use. Clean inside of barrel before and after each use with cleaning rod, patch and silicone oil.

Relieve the tension in the main spring and any others such as the magazine spring.

The main spring tension is relieved by pulling the trigger, with gun pointed in a safe direction, firing the gun will remove the tension.

To relieve the tension in the magazine spring, you must unload the magazine.

Don'ts

Get the gun wet or drop it.

Use real gun oil or any oil other than silicone oil.

Put the gun away for any length of time without the proper oiling and cleaning. (See above)

GAS GUNS

There are two types of gas guns that are popular today, CO2 and Green Gas. We will discuss these separately.

CO2 GUNS

DO'S

Oil the gun inside and out after each use. Clean inside of barrel before and after each use with a cleaning rod, patch and silicone oil.

Use only the correct CO2 cartridges

Oil the slides on Blow Back guns regularly.

DON'TS

Get the gun wet or drop it.

Use real gun oil or any oil other than silicone oil.

Put the gun away for any length of time without oiling and cleaning.

GREEN GAS GUNS

DO'S

Oil the gun inside and out after each use. Clean inside of barrel before and after each use with a cleaning rod, patch and silicone oil.

Hold the gas supply vertically above the gun or magazine being filled.

Use only the gas specified. Read your gun manual prior to using other gases.

Add a few drops of oil (silicon oil) if using Propane. Use the proper adapter.

Never empty the gas reservoir, always leave enough gas to fire the gun a few times to protect the o ring seals.

Be sure to oil the magazines after using them a few times.

Oil the slides on Blow Back guns regularly.

DON'TS

Get the gun wet or drop it.

Use real gun oil or any oil other than silicone oil.

Put the gun away for any length of time without oiling and cleaning.

Fire the green gas gun without BB's (dry fie)

Use a cheap BB, get a good grade slick 20ga BB.

Continue firing when the magazine gets cold, stop and let it warm up-it could freeze and damage the weapon.
