Sibsagar College

Summary

Sibsagar University is a public university located in Joysagar, Sibsagar, Assam. It was established in 2023 by the Sibsagar University Act 2023, which upgraded the existing Sibsagar College, Joysagar (Autonomous) into a university. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in various disciplines of arts, science, and technology. The university has its main campus at Joysagar, which is situated near the historic Joysagar Tank that commemorates Sati Joymati, the Ahom Queen of the 17th century. The university also plans to set up out-station campuses and open and distance learning centres in the future. The university aims to provide education and research in the domain of the hydrocarbon sector, as well as other emerging areas of social and economic relevance. The university is affiliated with Dibrugarh University and is associated with Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), a national institute of importance.[1]

Sibsagar College publishes The Journal of Front-line Research in Arts and Science (ISSN 2249-9903). The journal publishes research papers, original research papers; review articles, discussion of current developments in academia; and research updates, papers that explain recent developments for the average reader. The journal covers each of the disciples listed in the Departments section.

The school has the following scientific departments: Physics, Electronics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, Zoology, and Botany, as well as the following humanities departments: English, Assamese, Economics, Political Science, Education, History, Philosophy, and Library Science.[2]
