When you move into an apartment, the
goal is to make sure that the two of you are able to enter a good agreement
that is going to be good for both parties. If you choose to go back on some of
the agreement, then the landlord will have some steps that they can take for
that. But if the landlord is not keeping up on their part of the agreement,
then you have some recourse as well. This is why it is so important to have a lease in place to make sure that you are all good to go.
Before you sign the lease agreement
with the new landlord, make sure that you take the time to read through it
carefully, taking the time to understand it all in as much detail as possible.
If there is a part that doesn’t make sense for you, then now is the time to ask
about it or have someone else read through the lease to make sure that
everything is clear and concise. If you try to do this after signing the lease,
you are out of luck.
If there is something that is in the
lease that you did not agree to, then do not sign the lease until it is taken
out. If the landlord refuses to take it out or keeps bringing you a lease and
it has the same information again, rather than taking it out, then this is a
bad idea and you will need to look at a different place to call your home.
The same can be said if there is
something that you and the landlord agreed to, but it is not in the lease, then
get it added in. You want it found in your copy and the copy the landlord has.
If you sign it without that information in it, then you will have no recourse
later on. Never sign a lease that you are not comfortable with.
