JEE Advanced is conducted for the candidates who score minimum qualifying marks in JEE Main. It is a national level entrance examination for admission to India’s prestigious IITs and IISc. Days after JEE Main is conducted, result is declared and the list of candidates who are eligible for JEE advanced is prepared.

The exam is conducted by one of the 7 zonal IITs on a rotational basis every year following the guidelines as laid down by IIT exam governing body known as Joint Admission Board (JAB). JEE advanced paper is conducted as a stage 2 paper for the qualifying candidates as the number of applicants for a limited number of engineering seats at IITs is high and some specific criteria are to be fixed for admission to these seats. With the help of IIT JEE Advanced past paper, JAB selects the top meritorious applicants and help them shape their future.
The concept of JEE advanced came in 2012. Earlier every year two different exams were conducted (IIT JEE and AIEEE) for providing admission to the candidates to different streams of engineering in various colleges of India. In 2012, CBSE changed the concept and introduced JEE Main and JEE Advanced.
According to the latest announcement by JEE Main exam 2019 will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) in online mode. JEE Main will be conducted twice a year. On the other hand, JEE Advanced will be conducted by IIT only once a year.
All the candidates who clear the exam do not only have the option to join IIT, they can also opt for IISc which is considered as a top-most institute for science studies in the country. Every year nearly 2.3 lakh candidates qualify for JEE advanced exam. There is also a limit set for the number of attempts an applicant can make to crack IIT JEE advanced paper – 2 years.
After the paper is conducted successfully, the final rank list is prepared by aggregating the marks scored by each candidate in JEE Advanced Paper I and Paper II which has questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. There is no role played by the number of marks in JEE Main
as it is only considered to determine the qualifying status of an applicant.
There is also a provision of tie-breaking policy in-case two or more candidates score equal aggregate marks in the exam. The tie-breaking policy works in such a way that an applicant with more positive points gets a higher rank in comparison to other. If a tie is still not resolved, a candidate with the high score in mathematics will be preferred, and if this also not works marks in physics are compared. If no solution is found even till this step, all the candidates with the same aggregate scores are allotted the same rank in JEE Advanced rank list.
After JEE Advanced paper and result announcement, the candidates have to register for Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Through the counseling, seat allotment process takes place on the basis of merit and institute and course opted by an applicant.
