What is Singapore Employment Act?

The Singapore Employment Act is the country’s main labour law, providing the basic terms and conditions at work for employees, both local and foreign, at work. Though, notably, foreign employees holding a work pass are also covered by the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, which outlines an employer’s responsibilities and obligations for employing foreigners.

However, manager or executive with monthly basic salary of more than $4,500; seafarers, domestic workers, and statutory board employees, and civil servants, are not covered by the Employment Act. In general, those not covered by the Act, their terms and conditions of employment are according to their respective employment contract.
