How to build a career as an Animation and VFX artist:

1.     Take an animation course or a degree in animation.


To all the aspirants going to an animation school or college is the first step to becoming an Animator. An aspirant who has completed the Animation course has always way more opportunities. 


The options include associate’s or bachelor’s degree programs, also the non-degree programs like certificate and diploma courses. However, a degree program usually provides a broader and deeper knowledge from the foundation to the advanced courses. Whereas a non-degree program is a specific speciality and requires prior knowledge of certain areas. 


Either way one should pick up a course that gives hands-on practice with the industry technology and taught by the people who are experienced in the field. 


2.     Focus on developing the skills


Even though you have enrolled yourself in the best animation course and colleges, an instructor can teach you only so much about becoming an animator. They can push you and guide you but ultimately you have to do the hard work.  


One more important quality to be a successful animator is being a team player, animation projects require a lot of collaborations and being a team member one should be open to feedback and critiques. 


3.     Develop a fascinating Portfolio


To be a successful animator having a stellar portfolio is the key. The portfolio should reflect your complete work, give the recap of your best works and project goals. Put some hard work and show your creative side in your portfolio.  


Also, do not forget to mention your strengths as a team player. 


4.     Have a diverse work experience


While you are learning the course start exploring the options, do multiple internships at different levels. Experience outside the classroom is also very important. 


Take up more freelance jobs.  


These experiences will give the choice of career, one can join any existing animation or VFX studio, start their studio or production house, become a freelancer or choose to go towards the gaming industry after completion of the course.
