Amid a recent wave of health insurance premium increases, an estimated 1 million people were priced out of the health insurance market in the U.S. in 2017, according to a report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. These individuals are part of a group that earn too much to qualify for subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, leaving them vulnerable to the latest round of premium increases by insurance companies, reports The New York Times. The Trump Administration opted to decrease advertising for the Obamacare signup period, which may have contributed to some of the decrease in enrollment as well. And, as of January, those who decline to purchase health insurance will not be subject to a fine by the federal government, which may further discourage health insurance enrollment.
