Blackberry Giving Facebook a Black Eye

BlackBerry wanted to be friends with Facebook, so for several years they pursued dialogue in settling a patent infringement claim, but now without resolution, they are suing. The Canada-based, once-dominant smartphone maker filed their litigation in a Los Angeles court. BlackBerry Messenger was once a common way to text and share images, especially in countries where text message rates were high. However, Facebook, its photo-sharing app Instagram, and its messaging service WhatsApp have become the go-to place for messages, replacing many of BlackBerry Messenger's functions, CNet reported. In response to the suit, Paul Grewal, deputy general counsel for Facebook, accused BlackBerry of "looking to tax the innovation of others," vowing to fight the suit.
