Social Media Comments Are Singlehandedly Destroying Society

Nowadays almost everyone has some sort of social media account on either their phone or computer. Social media didn't really begin to blow up until 2009 when Facebook really took off. Of course, before there was Facebook there was MySpace, but that only lasted a few years once Facebook took over. A few years after Facebook became the largest social media website in the world, Instagram became the most popular social media app on cellular devices. To this day, Instagram is dominating the world of social media apps. These websites and apps are amazing at keeping in touch with people you don't see daily and even with inspiring people to try new things and teach them topics they knew nothing about. They make people feel closer to celebrities than ever (not sure if that's a good thing or not,) and even give artists a platform to share their work and gain popularity. There are so many useful purposes for social media, but there is one large downside; the comment section.

The comment section is ruthless for any social media website or app. People are oddly comfortable saying terrible things to strangers they don't know. You might think people are simply keyboard warriors and would never say any of these things to someone in person, but people have surprisingly gained the confidence to say these things to people in person. There is a generally negative mental state that people are in and have found it far too easy to be argumentative with others. I'm sure you have at some point witnessed a hostile exchange of weirds between people on social media or in person that was shocking. Why do people think it is acceptable to say terrible things to people? What is it about these social media comments that have people so full of rage? I want you people reading to think about that and ask yourself why society has turned this way?
