Surgical Masks - A Great Way to Protect Against Influenza?

In response to public concern, the uses of Surgical Masks now span far outside of the medical and health care arena. The outbreak of such airborne diseases like flu has fueled an on-demand requirement for face masks. However, reports show regular masks give little defense, as microbe-bearing particles are able to pass them through rather easily.

Recently, manufacturers of surgical masks have been very busy creating a manner of face mask known as a"respirator". They provide a higher level of security as the stringent filter is impregnated with a germicide that disinfects any particles it touches including microbes. They're in use domestically in the U.S. and globally throughout millions of medical offices, hospitals, and clinics.

N99 Surgical respirators with a sealing adhesive provide much higher antimicrobial protection than traditional KN95 Masks which fasten to the face using an elastic band. When applying the face mask, then it's very important to combine relaxation and functionality. If a surgical mask doesn't provide a higher degree of protection afterward respirator should not be used.


It is no longer a secret which airborne diseases and infections are here to stay. Now the big question is what could potentially happen if the avian flu blends with swine flu, and are we prepared as a society to react? As the H1N1 virus is already discovered in dogs, cats, pigs, horses, cows and naturally... HUMANS!

There is an every growing threat this mixture may be going on away from the U.S. in developing countries with little regulation or guidelines for preparing these kinds of meats products securely. No matter what, whether this new H1N1 or the avian flu virus, the long-term strategy for survival includes protecting individuals from contracting airborne infections in the first location.

There is fear among healthcare professionals lately that as the chance a microbe will emerge that spreads an extremely contagious airborne disease to the general public grows every day. Among other items to keep handy contain medical gloves, hand sanitizers, and such things to keep market a clean and sterile environment. Accepting these types of precautions would be the best method to combat the spread of airborne illness.
