Neopets; a virtual pet website has been around since the late 90's. Within this virtual universe 2 types of currency are available - neopoints, which can be earned by playing games, and neocash, which can be purchased outside of the site and used within.
This virtual universe is filled with mindless games and challenges created to keep users occupied and hooked. There's nothing super advanced about neopets but the platform allows users to customize their homes and shops using html and css. What other online gaming platform does that?
Neopets managed to grow during the late 90s because of word of mouth. The way Neopets made money was through immersive advertising before a premium version of the site was released where ads were removed.
Neopets was always an addicting platform that my brothers and I were constantly on when we were younger. Before Club Penguin and Roblox was Neopets. While Club Penguin has died out after being an extremely popular platform, Neopets and Roblox have managed to stay. Both of these platforms challenge users to create and build while still being easy and fun to use for those who don't necessarily want to make something extravagant.
This past summer I randomly thought about Neopets again while on vacation with my family. I couldn't access my old account, which sucks, so I created a new one. Every day since June 16, I've visited Neopets at least once.
