Colour profiles guarantee a consistent and predictable print result on different types of paper. All you need to do is set up the latest ICC profile variants and embed them in your art. In 2015, a number of colour profile standards were revised and released by the International Color Consortium (ICC). Every device has its own individual color space it can display. That is why images look different on a screen, poster or in a brochure. When it comes to printing, paper forms are hard because of their different colouring and texture. The identical print ink and art can look entirely different based on the paper stock. Colour profiles intention to create consistent and predictable colour results on different devices by accounting for the features of paper forms and printing techniques. To make this happen, the International Color Consortium (ICC) develops colour profiles for various media. The ICC profiles may be downloaded for free (more about this later).
They are compatible with Windows, Mac OS and any other conventional operating system. But, ICC profiles are generally not installed on your own pc by default so you have to do this manually. Also, you have to embed the ICC profiles in your layout program. We'll explain how to do this later in this article. ICC profiles are always developed further. The colour profiles applicable for print shops (PSO coated & uncoated) are available in an updated version since 2015. The latest version 3 of the standard guarantees even better colour reproduction, especially on natural newspapers. But the 1 print standard also defines new demands for measurement engineering, regular illumination and proof papers. To publish coated papers like art paper, Onlineprinters needs the PSO coated v3 profile. For uncoated paper shares such as offset and natural newspapers, we employ the PSO uncoated v3 profile.
