I Don’t Love You to the
Moon and Back.

I sent my heart to the
moon
to show just how much I
love you.
When she arrived, she
looked around
to see barren dirt, and
then found
the distance too small
to even come close to
my love at all.
So, she went on her way
to find a moon farther
away.
To Mars she flew, and
found the two
sisters, Deimos and
Phobos, who both knew
that she had to fly
further,
so they let her go in
search of another.
She traveled low and
high above
to find a moon to
describe my love
with enough distance in
between
itself and the earth,
so blue and green.
Then she flew to Saturn
crowned
with a ring, and then
she found
brothers Uranus and
Neptune,
who both had many a
moon.
The distance was still
not enough apart
so like a rocket, then
my heart
left our solar system
to go find
a far-off moon that
defined
the distance needed to
portray
everything I wanted to
say.
Like a spaceship that
would never die,
to search for a moon,
my heart did try.
As my heart flew and
flew,
I realized something
that was true:
I cannot use any moon
to describe the love I
have for you.
By numbers, my love cannot
be measured;
but instead, it needs
to be treasured
as something that came
to exist
the very moment we
first kissed.
When you touch me, our
atoms collide.
Like the atoms, we
become tied –
my negative to your
positive charge.
My love for you is as large
as the moons, stars,
and even black
holes. To me, I called
my heart back
and she crashed into my
breast
like a meteor driven in
my chest.
Out of all the stars
she discovered,
none shone as bright as
our love for each other.
I’ve traveled the
universe and found none
as bright as you – you
are My One.
