The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) have announced a new outbreak of E. coli O121 linked to cake
mix on July 28, 2021. The outbreak was only recently announced, but
sixteen cases have already been reported from twelve different states.
According to the CDC, 100% of the
reported cases are females from the age of 2 to 73. State and local
public health officials interviewed eight of the affected people and at least
six reported tasting or eating raw batter made with a cake mix.
Individuals who have eaten raw cake
batter and are experiencing symptoms of E. coli should consider contacting
medical health care providers as they are able to.
