Trump Pushes USPS on Amazon

The U.S. postmaster general has been resisting pressure from President Trump to double the rate that it charges Amazon and other companies for package delivery, according to The Washington Post. The newspaper, owned by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, cited three people in the report who “spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the White House’s internal deliberations.” Megan Brennan, the postmaster general, maintains that the service’s partnership with Amazon is profitable and bound by a contract overseen by a regulatory commission. Nevertheless, the service has been losing money for more than a decade. Trump, who recently signed an executive order allowing the government to review postal operations, says that the giant e-tailer uses its size and connection to the newspaper to “push bricks-and-mortar companies out of business,” per the Post.
