It was four years ago that I began working at AccuCare. I loved every minute of it! My responsibility at that time was to answer clients' questions and concerns regarding their healthcare. I gained a lot of knowledge during that time, and I realized that all I needed to know was only a few calls away. I set myself a challenge to keep my engagement high and to see how far it would take me. Although I didn't expect to be recognized for it, I knew that I was an employee who had earned it.
What is the most important thing you have learned about caregiving?
It all begins with acknowledging that everyone has the right to their opinions. Personaly, I believe that everyone should be recognized for the hard work they put in every day for the people around them.

What is it that makes your company unique? Do you have a story to share?
Our company is a small business that is owned and operated from St. Louis, MO. We are able to innovate and take chances when creating and delivering services to the community.
Tell us about the most embarrassing mistake you made when you first started. What lesson did you learn from this?
This was my first week at work. While trying to figure how to use the company's free online training material, I came up with the idea of creating a leaderboard that would help my clients hold their employees accountable. Because mistakes do happen, it was clear to me that there must be a leaderboard that can help you get accountability. This is why we offer online training that is based on those mistakes. While mistakes can be a good thing for a team, they also serve to build a team that cares about the collective outcome and is dedicated.
About Social Empowerment Council is an alliance of disability organizations that provides peer and community education to remove social and cultural barriers that prevent people with disabilities from reaching their full potential. We gather to share our knowledge and strengthen advocacy for people with disabilities.

A tragic fire in St. Louis, MO, destroyed the Psychiatry Building, approximately 101 years ago. The city recognized the need to rebuild community and commissioned Pile Design Studio to reimagine the Psychiatry Building alongside the Jefferson Memorial. Designers and laborers created a powerful reminder to heal. Sometimes, what is possible cannot be imagined. Some of the pieces are now on display in St. Louis in an Exhibit, curated by The Architecture Perkins + Will. It runs through September 5.
