Congress Releases Spending Bill

Congressional leaders released a $1.3 trillion spending bill late Wednesday to fund the government until September, Reuters reports. The carefully crafted deal includes $80 billion in additional military spending but does not fund certain immigration measures, such as a concrete wall along long swaths of the U.S.-Mexico border. The bill must be passed by both the House and Senate ahead of a government shutdown deadline at Friday midnight when existing funding expires. Included in the bill's many provisions are new funding for infrastructure, $380 million for election security, and some gun control legislation, per Reuters.
