Coffee talk....

Let’s talk coffee. On this planet, coffee grows only in certain places. Look at the picture of the Earth, 20 degrees above the equator and 20 degrees below. That is the coffee growing region around the world.

The only place in the United  States that hits that region is Hawaii, mostly the Big Island of Hawaii, our home.  See the map of Hawaii; see the bottom island and Captain Cook. That is were our farm is.

It needs to be warm, needs to rain a lot (80+ in/year) Likes to grow above 1000ft elevation, 1500-2000 is perfect. Volcanic soil is best.

Coffee trees grow fast. You will start getting a crop in the 2nd year of growth. Trees can live till 100 years, but are never let to grow higher that 12ft. Every year they need to be pruned for next year’s new growth.

The best coffee is picked by hand, when the fruit (cherry) turns red. There are two types of coffee trees, Robusta & Arabica. The best coffee comes from Arabica with Robusta being the big producer. We grow really good Arabica Coffee Beans, known the world over as Kona coffee. One tree will typically produce enough cherry to make one pound of roasted coffee.  Aloha
