The welding torch is controlled by the welder which checks the flow of the concentrated flame used for melting the metals. The combination of oxygen and acetylene can work on strong metals as it is capable of producing heat around 3200°C. Gases such as hydrogen and propane are also used as other fuel gases in this welding process. The oxyacetylene welding process is very popular because it has numerous advantages. It is low cost and maintenance can be easily transported, and easy to handle. It is mainly used for fabrication of sheet metal and joining thin metals. All these make it incredibly handy in aircraft and shipbuilding industries which involve working with heavy and strong metals.

 

  • Tungsten Inert Gas Welding – This welding process mainly uses an electrode made of tungsten to create an arc between the materials. Tungsten electrode is non-consumable and so it is not consumed in the welding process. One of the biggest benefits of using this welding process is the fact that it works incredibly well in welding non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminium, magnesium, nickel, and more. It is mostly used in the automobile industry.

 

  • Flux Cored Arc Welding – It can be subdivided into 2 parts – self-shielded flux core welding and gas shielded flux core welding. In the self-shielded flux core welding, the flux inside the electrode produces slag and gas when heated. They do not require any external agents for the heating process. In the gas shielded flux cored welding technique; an external gas is used to produce the slag. The shielding gas can be controlled. This is why it is so popular among welders.
