Ding Dong the Wretch is Dead!

Ding dong the wretch is dead
Sweet revenge for those who fled
ding dong the wretch Fidel is dead

Yesterday, the Cuban-American community rejoiced at the death of the infamous Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Unlike many unscrupulous dictators, he did some good (literacy rates and medical treatments), but for the more than 1,300 political dissidents who were executed for daring to share their opinion, and for the more than 1.1 million Cuban refugees who fled his oppression, his death could not have come too soon.

The man who thwarted 11 U.S. Presidents—especially John F. Kennedy during the failed Bay of Pigs invasion and embargo--succumbed not to U.S. policies and multiple attempts to assassinate him, but on his own terms of natural causes at the not-so-tender age of 90.

Hopefully, his 85-year old brother, Raul, who is now President, will begin a transformation that will end the oppression and poverty most of his nation labors under. His time to pass the mantel can’t be too far off and we wish for that mantel to be passed to one who will be more open and honest for the people of Cuba and the world.
