5 Things You Need To Do To Prioritise Your Hygiene!

Making your hygiene a priority is key for your physical health and your mental health, both to help protect you from getting ill and also to help you feel clean and well put together. Not to mention, poor hygiene affects all areas of your life, from your relationships to your working life, so you need to get it right. Luckily, there are a few simple things you can do to start making your hygiene a priority!

Wash Your Bedding Once A Week

Firstly, you should be washing your bedding once a week. Without even knowing it, dead skin cells, dust, oils from the body and general bacteria can build up in your sheets. As a result, things like rashes, irritation and general discomfort can occur, as well as a general lack of cleanliness. So, in order to avoid this, you should wash your bedding once a week. Make a bit of a routine out of it, perhaps washing your hair the same evening so you can get nice and comfy in your clean bed. Plus, clean bedding for many people helps to encourage better sleep.

Keep Your Products Simple

Something else you should do is keep your hygiene products simple. Often people jump to using many different skincare and personal hygiene products that don’t do much more than if you had a more simple routine. Plus, try to use options with natural ingredients, as they’re more gentle on the skin and reduce irritation. So, rather than having 5 different hair products, 7 different skincare products, 10 shower products and multiple deodorants that you pile up, keep it simple with a small number of products that you know work well and stick with that. This can also help to reduce acne for some people!

Use An Effective Anti-Perspirant

One of the most obvious signs of poor oral hygiene is when you have body odour coming from your armpits, so you need to be using an effective antiperspirant. There is a difference between deodorant and antiperspirant in that deodorant covers up any odour your body produces, but the sweat underneath it is still there, so it’s not always very effective. Whereas, with an antiperspirant, it helps to protect against the substance itself and then it’s also scented, so you’ve got a double layer of protection should you need it. You want an antiperspirant that isn’t harsh and that lasts all day, so do a bit of research and find out what works best for you.

Keep Your Nails Trimmed

Something else that many people overlook but it’s actually an important part of hygiene is to keep your nails trimmed. Short nails look better generally and when they’re short, there’s also less opportunity for them to catch any dirt or bacteria. Also, if you’re not keeping your finger and toenails nicely trimmed, it can cause issues like ingrown toenails. If you’re a runner or play a lot of sports, you also need to make sure that your toenails are trimmed, as they can get easily bruised and even fall off if they’re too long. So, make sure that you’re regularly cutting your toenails and fingernails to stay healthy and hygienic!

Get Your Oral Hygiene Routine Sorted

Alongside body odour, one of the biggest indicators of poor hygiene is when you don’t look after your oral health. Without a thorough routine, you will likely experience different oral health issues, including smaller (but still considerable) concerns such as bad breath, through to major oral health problems like tooth decay and loss and gum disease. So, you should be visiting your dentist Solihull, Southampton or Sheffield at least every 6 months for your dentist to check that everything is as it should be. Prevention is better than cure, and the 6-month window is usually adequate to help catch any issues before they get too severe. You should also be visiting your hygienist at the same time to ensure that any plaque buildup is removed.

Then, you should have a thorough routine in place at home, where you’re brushing with an electric toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste twice a day, flossing once a day and using mouthwash. We only get one set of natural teeth and it’s our duty to look after them properly.
