A ping is a valuable tool for troubleshooting all sorts of network or Internet problems. First, reboot the client computers and ping the server again.
If the issue persists, start by verifying physical connectivity to the hosts. Check the cables and connectors — unplug and plug etc.
Next, verify that the host’s network interface is up and running. From a command prompt, enter netsh int ipv4 show int
If the network interface is not listed, open Network Connections in the Control Panel and verify that the network adapter icon is visible and it is not disabled. If disabled, right-click it and choose Enable.
If the network adapter is not visible in the Control Panel, open Device Manager and verifies that the appropriate drivers are installed.
If you can actually see the network adapter icon in the Control Panel and it is not disabled, try disabling and enabling it.
Right-click the network adapter icon, choose properties and verify that TCP/IP is not unchecked and that the correct IP address and subnet mask are assigned.
If the server resides on a separate subnet, verify that the host is configured with the correct gateway address and then try pinging the gateway. Verify routing too.
