Navigating Los Angeles

For California natives, Los Angeles is an easily recognizable location. It is ranked as the largest city in the state and second-largest city in the nation. One would think with such a large population, there must be a gazillion of things to do, attracting people to the city. While there is plenty to do, for non-natives it can be overwhelming to pick what do to in Los Angeles (LA). Do you plan for an all-day outing or just the part of the day such as morning and early afternoon? Allowing you to leave early enough to beat the traffic out of the city. Option three would be for an afternoon and evening activity and enjoy when the city really comes alive and deal with traffic. It can be hard so for someone like me who just moved down to southern California to navigate Los Angeles well and plan out a weekend city trip. But I have some ideas of fairly inexpensive activities to do as I learn the areas of Los Angeles as well as the activities it has to offer.

For example, this weekend, I will be heading up to the city aiming to attempt two activities as well as plan a more formal eating location. Since I do not know too many food places, as I've only been to Los Angeles once since moving to southern California six months ago, I am currently planning on going to that brunch location. Additionally, I know that the restaurant is within a couple of miles of the two other activities I am planning on doing that day. Yelp is an anti-localists best friend, let me tell you. While it is true that yelp is either highly positive or highly negative, oftentimes there are enough similar comments to get an accurate feel for a location. So I'd like to try a new place this weekend when I go out, but we'll see, the person I'm going with has not been the place I am planning on anyways, so either way, it will be good.

While I am not a 'tourist' per se, I sort of am, because I am still pretty new to the area. I still want to do touristy things such as see Santa Monica pier, Hollywood Blvd, Rodeo Drive, Griffith Observatory, Hollywood sign, etc. This weekend when I get up to the city, I will be attempting to complete two tourist activities. My current thought was to get up kind of early, drive to the city and grab breakfast first. After breakfast, we're going to head over to the first activity, which will take a couple of hours and should be done while it is light outside. Although it may be hot this weekend and the activity is outdoors, I'm hoping that it won't be too miserable being outside for a couple of hours. The second activity I want to do as the sun is setting, and night begins to fall because the photos from that location will be amazing. I'm looking forward to both of the activities and I'm currently hungry so restaurant location sounds AMAZING right now. But everything that I am planning for this weekend I found through yelp and web searching for places and ideas. Also, the three locations are within 5 miles of each other, which in Los Angeles is amazing, because driving around and parking is awful, so having the ability to stay close is great.
