4 Reasons to Start Working Out at Night

There’s isn’t a “right” or “wrong” time to work out, so long as you’re getting your body moving and striving to achieve your goals. Team “Morning Workout” makes quite a bit of noise about how awesome it is to wake up early and power through a workout first thing in the morning. While some may never give up their 6 A.M. sweat sesh, there are quite a few perks to exercising after work or late at night. Should you try it? If these four reasons sound appealing, maybe you should.

Burn Off the Stress of the Day

One of the primary benefits of working out in the morning is waking yourself up enough to tackle your day. On the flip side, if you’ve had a crazy day or just have some things on your mind, working out at night gives you the chance to burn off steam. Even lacing up your trusty pair of basketball shoes and shooting some hoops can work wonders after a long day.

Focus on the Workout, Not the Clock

When you work out in the morning, there’s always a hard stop time. After all, you have other obligations post-workout, so if you hit that pre-determined stop time without finishing, too bad. The only way around this in the morning is to start your workout even earlier. But when you’re already waking up at 4 A.M., you most likely don’t have much wiggle room. At night, you essentially have all of the time in the world. You are finished with all of your priorities for the day, so you don’t have to worry about crunching time; it’s just you and the workout.

The Later It Gets, the Fewer People in the Gym

If you work out at a commercial gym, the crowds and the waiting in line for equipment probably make staying in bed seem like a better use of your time. There are a few internationally busy times throughout the day where waves of people swarm any gym. Typically, these are before work, during the lunch hour and right after work. You may not find many people at the gym around 4 A.M., but who actually wants to wake up that early? Instead, channel your inner night owl and try going around 9 P.M. or so. You might find you have the gym all to yourself.

You Might Have More Energy at Night, Compared to the Morning

Some people have no problem hitting the alarm clock, lacing up their running shoes and going for a 5-mile run. If waking up is not exactly a breeze, you probably perform better when you’ve had a chance to do a few other tasks to get your brain and body in gear. Although you might need a little pre-workout or caffeine to get you amped up, you’re likely far more alert later in the day than you are the moment you wake up.
