How Many People Have to Die Before they do Something?

I moved from New Jersey to California in 2004 when I was 8 years old. Since moving, I have witnessed at least 56 car accidents, 2 pedestrian-involved incidents, and countless ticket-worthy events. And to think: these are just the ones I've seen. According to multiple neighbors, there have been hundreds of accidents on this corner!

Just since I have moved in, there have been several flipped cars, totaled cars, injuries, and family disputes. The intersection of Sentous Ave and La Puente Rd is so terrifying to go through that many residents refuse to go through it unless absolutely necessary. Many neighbors, including myself have asked the city to do something about this intersection, but the main issue is: this intersection has 4 different jurisdictions. This means that in order to get anything done, we would have to collect petitions and argue in 4 different cities to get something done. According to one neighbor, we would need 7,000 signatures in order to even have a speed bump put in. You see, according to my older neighbor who has lived on this corner for nearly 70 years: this streetlight is relatively new. 7 people had to die before the city (not sure which one) changed the stop sign into a street light, and now it appears that is the same case here. So far, 2 people have died at this intersection, both of them pedestrians. They were struck by people racing to beat the yellow light, and failing. Even a police officer was left paralyzed because he collided with a person making a left turn while he was speeding to a call and crashed into my neighbor's retaining wall.

I know a speed bump or a reduced speed limit is not going to help much, but since there are 3 schools within one block of this intersection, having that crossing guard there is not going to stop a speeding car.

We need to do something and having more people die is not an option.
