Colour profiles guarantee a consistent and predictable print effect on various types of paper. All you have to do is set up the latest ICC profile variations and embed them into your own artwork. In 2015, a number of color profile criteria were revised and released by the International Color Consortium (ICC). Every device has its own personal colour space that it may display. That is why images appear different on a monitor, poster or in a brochure. When it comes to printing, paper sorts are challenging because of their different colouring and texture. The same print ink and art may look totally different depending on the newspaper stock. Colour profiles intention to make predictable and consistent color results on various devices by accounting for the qualities of paper types and printing methods. To achieve this, the International Color Consortium (ICC) develops colour profiles for different media. The ICC profiles can be downloaded for free (more about this later).
They are compatible with Windows, Mac OS and any other standard operating system. However, ICC profiles are typically not installed on your computer by default so that you have to do so manually. Also, you have to embed the ICC profiles into your layout program. We'll explain how to do that later in this article. ICC profiles have been always developed further. The colour profiles relevant for printing shops (PSO coated & uncoated) are available in an updated version since 2015. The latest variant 3 of this standard promises even better colour reproduction, especially on natural papers. But the 1 printing standard also specifies new requirements for measurement engineering, regular illumination and proof documents. To publish coated papers like art paper, Onlineprinters needs the PSO coated v3 profile. For uncoated paper stocks like counter and natural papers, we apply the PSO uncoated v3 profile.
