Nobel Prize Sexual Assault Scandal

The Swedish Academy that awards the Nobel prize in literature has been roiled by a sexual assault and harassment scandal that could postpone the award for another year, reports The Guardian. The scandal began in November when French photographer Jean-Claude Arnault, who is married to a Nobel committee member, was accused of harassing or assaulting 18 women. Arnault’s wife, author Katarina Frostenson, was initially allowed to remain on the committee but stepped down after several members left in protest. Infighting and an antiquated procedural system for giving out the award could mean two Nobels in literature will be given in 2019. The remaining members will decide this week.
