If you’ve been a lapsed World of Warcraft player for the past 10-plus years, you’ve probably let some relationships fall by the wayside—for example, the entire guild that formed the core of your social life when you were in a suffocatingly small Christian high school in Texas. Maybe you’ve found yourself sipping a beverage in the loneliest corner of your local bar wondering, “What ever happened to those folks?” and “Why didn’t they let complete my tier 2 armor set before the first expansion came out, those dicks?” Well, with WoW Classic around the corner, Blizzard is now trying to help you get answers to both of those questions.
Blizzard is doing their part to help you reconnect with people you used to play World of Warcraft with, in particular between 2004-2006.Through the official "Classic Connections" forum set up by Blizzard, you can work your way through a survey to find and reunite with the people who were playing on the same server at the same time on the same side (Horde or Alliance) as yourself, hopefully bumping into some familiar faces along the way. The point of World of Warcraft Classic, of course, isn’t just that the game is being taken back in time to 2004, it’s about the players who played back then. World of Warcraft is an MMO, and recapturing that pre-raid finder, pre-dungeon finder, pre-guild finder era will be essential in delivering that vanilla WoW experience.
World of Warcraft Classic is set to launch on Aug. 27 and will allow the MMO to be played in a a pre-Burning Crusade expansion state. More specifically, as the game was after patch 1.12.1 in Sept. 2006. It's what players have been asking for, and now they are going to get it, but will they really enjoy the original all over again?
